Comments:
I have wondered in the past whether the title of the episode DAY OF THE DOVE was meant to be an insult to the Holy Spirit which manifests at Jesus's baptism as a dove. I myself am actually a pantheist believing that God is everything (the New Testament does say, after all, that Christ is all and in all (Colossians 3:11)and if God is everywhere and knows everything it stands to reason that He is everything although I admit that this is a bit circular and we should not necessarily swallow everything in the Bible uncritically). However, yesterday (26/2/2005) I discovered that there is a hymn or exorcism in the Hindu Rig Veda (10.165) called "the Dove of Death" which is meant to drive the dove from the house and there are references in it to weapons like spears. Were the makers of STAR TREK influenced by this? Other facts that have occurred to me in connection with doves is that Jonah is Hebrew for dove and that, if one thinks of the dove of peace, the episode ends with the Klingons and humans being friendly. Jonah also sounds like or looks like the place name Iona (there is no J in the Latin alphabet) and that island was connected with St Columba and Columba is Latin for dove.
