Editorial: |
his Side Of Paradise is a fun-filled episode that asks what true paradise really is and what it means. The spores did provide a kind of symbiotic relationship. While they inhabited a host body they repaid the host with perfect health, but also a sense of not wanting to leave; all the drive and ambition that help make up a person was supressed and hence, as is a common Trek staple, there was no devolpment. This was the first episode that truely allowed the character of Spock to completely let go of his logic and bring forth his normally supressed emotions. It is also the first of his two times in the series that he actually falls in love; the second came at the tail-end of the series in the episode All Our Yesterdays. Some key scenes in this episode to watch for are, where Spock is swinging from a tree and where Kirk tries to drive out the spores from his good friend Spock.
