rena pits Kirk in a combat, where he must rely on only materials at hand to make weapons to fight against an opponent who is superior in physical strength and size. Although the Gorn does not make another appearance on Trek, the race is forever remembered by fans. Roddenberry again uses his old trick of combining a female body with a male voice to create a feeling of androdgeny in the Metron. Vic Perrin is uncredited here for the voice of the Metron and the warning; he previously provided the voice of the childlike Balok in The Corbomite Maneuver. The aspect of an alien force stopping the two ships, is repeated again in the early Next Generation episode The Last Outpost.
