  • Flaws/ Nitpics:
    Mis-Spoken Terms

  • Recorder Marker instead of log buoy or probe
    Story Flaws
  • When first going to alert status after encountering the buoy, Sulu makes a voice announcement to all decks and calls Captain Kirk to the bridge, yet the only warning indication that they get in sickbay, is just a flashing alarm light. The only reasonable explanation for this could be that McCoy disabled any audio alerts and calls, while he was examining Kirk, so he wouldn't be interrupted.
  • In Kirk's second log entry, just before the briefing room scene, he mentions "Star maps reveal no indication of habitable planets nearby," however, Spock mentioned to Bailey in the teaser that they were the first to reach this far, so how could they have star maps of what lies ahead of them?
    Uniform Flaws
  • Uhura appears in gold instead of her future red.
  • In one shot on the bridge, Kirk's insignia is crooked on his shirt.
    Editing Flaws
  • When Sulu announces "1 minute" remaining, the shot on the ship's chronometer changing from 2:01 to 1:00 to 1:59
    Release Flaws
  • On the DVD, Spock tells Bailey, regarding his adrenaline gland, "I would consider having it removed," however the captions, have Spock asking Bailey, "Have you considered having it removed?" Leonard Nimoy's delivery of this line makes no influx to sound like he's asking a question.

    Editorial:

    T
he Corbomite Maneuver presented the first mention of poker in the series. Though not used much in the Classic Trek series, the age-old card game would become a regular staple for episodes of The Next Generation. Here it provided an excellent moment between Kirk and Spock and then later Kirk and McCoy: Spock first compares their situation to Chess in that they appear to be checkmated by Balok; later in an argument about Bailey, McCoy tells Kirk that he's not bluffing about a log entry; this brings Kirk to realize that their current dilemma with Balok may be more like poker than chess. The bluff and ploy, Kirk used to win his "hand", The Corbomite Maneuver, would be used again in the mid-second season episode, The Deadly Years.

A note of confusion surrounding Spock's ancestry from Where No Man Has Gone Before, is cleared up here. Spock mentions that his mother is human. This was after another interesting moment for Spock, when he mentioned how Balok was reminiscent of his father.
